GH 11/17: Subtle Surprises
I've been in a surly mood all day, so I watched this show to seal the deal that this day was crappy, but is was a disarmingly decent episode.
Jason and Sam are back in Port Charles, trying to get on with their lives and ignore the elephant in the room. Both actors do a good job of splitting their focus between wanting desperately to return to normalcy while also clearly being unable to fully go a minute without thinking of the elephant.
Spinelli lovably wants to hear all about what Sam loved most about her honeymoon. Sam pretends to be focused on some bit of busy work and tries her best to remain patient and polite to Spinelli, even when he wonders if she's pregnant. Also, he plans to move out now (no idea why he didn't just go ahead and do that while they were out of town), but Sam desperately wants him to continue living upstairs. I assume she wants him around as a distraction. She reasonably is going to have intimacy issues for awhile and rather than work on them, it will be easier to have the excuse of respecting Spinelli and never having sex again. not that this is logical, but neither should Sam be right now.
Meanwhile, Sonny can tell that something is bothering Jason. Jason insists that he just wants to be debriefed on all that Sonny messed up in Jason's absence. Maurice Bernard confuses me as an actor. Most days, he seems like a guy who's had the same job for 20 years and is phoning it in, stuttering and stammering and pausing over his lines. Today I can almost pretend that Mo is deftly providing a subtle, nuanced performance in which Sonny's pauses are purposefully placed to indicate the moments when Sonny is stunned by the depth of Jason's sadness while also not wanting Jason to know he cottoned to that. I also imagined that Sonny purposefully whined about his problems with Kate in hopes that it would distract Jason from whatever was causing him pain.
The next day, Ethan continues to be mentally ill and talk to a painting. in depth. for, like, hours. or possibly days. I've made no secret that Ethan is one of my favorites, but this is just all so weird. What I got out of his yammering to the Laurtrait is that Ethan's sub conscious has realized that he's in love with Kristina, and he hopes that he only chased her away because she's so young and not b/c he's going to be like his dad and treat the various loves of his life like crap. But then also there's this bit with Lil ABner who saved Liz, and that someone seems to be eaveslurking from the catacombs. and there's a footprint. Does the show just want to be Passions for awhile? Ethan leaves Wyndermere, and then a blond wearing a white dressing gown emerges from the catacombs. But also, maybe Lucky dreamt that part?
Speaking of which, Lucky dreams of Siobahn for the entirety fo his trans-Atlantic flight back to New York. blah blah something about how they were actually in love with each other at some point that I must have missed. and she seems to hint that he needs to go back and be with Liz. or finish what he started. and she cries that he's being such a whiny pain in the ass all the time, whereas she would love to have lived long enough to have children.
But mostly, Luke rushes Aidan to the hospital. Also, apparently medical professionals Liz, Robin and Patrick (who live in Liz's hood) all live some 200 miles from General Hospital, or Luke's car has a lawn mower engine, and that's why it takes so long to get to GH. Luke and his Jiminy Luke have an epic mono/dialogue on the way to the hospital. I know that people probably hated it, but I think it was bordering on brilliant. It was tedious and banal, but overall, I am impressed with the effort put into filming it. The way Jiminy went from the front seat to the back seat to outside the car is not easy to pull off, both in the editing and continuity of Driver Luke reacting to the correct empty chair. David Canary wins Emmy's all the time b/c he plays two cartoonishly ridiculous characters who have a Patty Dukish resemblance to each other. Sally Field famously played the many facets of Sybil's split personality. What Mr. Geary and the writers created in these scenes is a revelation. Driver Luke and Jiminy Luke have all the same personality traits and quirks that the Luke we've watched for 30 years, yet they also come across as two different people.
the day is apparently Luke's anniversary to both Laura and Tracy, even though I feel confident that Luke married tracy on Laura's birthday and not in November like when he married Laura. Loo and Tracy realize that Luke has taken Aiden, and then they piece together that Luke took Aiden to the hospital. They leave 30 hours after Luke did and manage to get there at roughly the same time as Luke.
Thursday
Loo and Tracy ask Luke where Aiden is. Luke says he's here (and is very put out that they both quickly assume that he killed another toddler) Steven and Monica discuss that Aidan has bruises. Monicaa thinks they should call the cops, as one does when a baby is brought in and has possibly been abused. valid.
Liz's room: Liz still wants to go home, but Matt reminds her that patients go home on doctor's orders. He also comments that when she was feverish, she spoke of Lucky with great love, and she clung to Jason in a way that shows she's bonded to him in a way that he could never touch. Liz doesn't know what to make of this.

Liz's room: Liz paces slowly with her IV in tow and explains about how the various fathers of her various children will always be connected to her. He speaks frankly that he's a bit jealous and then backs off, saying he has no business discussing her life. She is tried and sweet and says he's better off not getting stuck in her jelly. They talk about their kiss, and she knows he has genuine feelings for Maxie, and he respects her feelings for Lucky and Jason. thjey agree that they very much enjoy that they've created a friendship that they don't want to lose. Matt tells her to keep the diamond bracelet that he meant to give Maxie. She scoffs that it's quite the friendship bracelet, and he says she's quite the friend.
Nurse's station: Luke explains that Lucky called in a panic, begging Luke to take Aidan to GH. Loo wants to whine about this, but Tracy points out that nothing matters of Aidan is sick and now getting help.
GH: Steven and Monica bicker. Steven doesn't believe Liz would ever raise a hand against her child. Mon points out that Liz has a history of patient negligence, so she may not have noticed that someone else was beating Aidan. or something like that. Meanwhile, Memphis has read Aidan's file and jasonically diagnoses that Aidan has Baby Sweeps Disease, most commonly cured by Everyone finding out that The Baby has a secret sibling that Everyone has been trying to keep a secret. Monica insta-loathes Memphis. Robin shows up to point out that Memphis never bothered to actually get hired at GH yet. Memphis slips that Aidan is dying, alarming Steven.

It's got stupid amounts of studs on the shoulders. Tracy tries to keep the peace. Memphis pulls her social security card and driver's license out of her back pocket, the place where all responsible people keep such documents. Robin dismisses Mon's opinion, saying she's just pised at Liz. Monica says she sometimes forgets how much, and then she angrily stalks away. I don't even know what that meant, but I do love Irrationally Incensed All the Time Monica. Robin agrees that Memphis should examine Aidan. steve does helpful stuff like stand around and roll his eyes.
Steven informs Luke, Loo and tracy that Aidan has bruises that concern the doctors b/c they don't sem to be from an external injury. Loo marvels that Lucky knew about this from Ireland. Luke wants to leave b/c he's late to his next pity party. Tracy still has more love for Luke and says he should stay.
Maxie's Pad: Spinelli stomps on the roses. Matt shows up, and it turns out he sent them. the Violins of Hilarity plink merrily as Matt surveys Spinelli's feet all over the roses.

Jason has spent the past 15 years simply murdering stuff that got on his nerves. Neither of them know how to navigate these waters. They both start to cry a little bit, so we go to commercials. Upon return, she's suddenly polite and guarded and says he doesn't need to do anything. She appreciate he cares, and she just wants to let this go. Of all the available options, I'm only certain that pretending it didn't happen isn't viable. Jason has a rape pamphlet and offers it to her. She takes the gloss tri-folded piece of paper that supposedly holds her salvation. She looks at him like he's an alien.

Monica is also angry that Liz clung to Jason when she was delirious and warns Liz to stay away from Sam. I assume Monica hopes that Sam wouldn't keep a grandchild a secret the way Liz did, so she's putting her granny dreams in Sam's basket?
Jason's Penthouse: Sam states she's not going to hang out with strangers to cope with her elephant, and she angrily asks where he got this brochure. she spits out that she doesn't remember it. I'm glad you caught the nuances of the DuoLuke scene....it was lost on me. The dour duo took me on the longest car ride to the hospital I've ever encountered. I think Lucky only took slightly longer to get back from Ireland.
I don't get Monica's extreme hatred for Elizabeth, she treats Carly better and she stole her grandson and gave him to a stuttermumblingmidgetminimobster who hung her own son on a meathook. Maybe because Jakeson wasn't creepy like Chucky.
Thanks for the caps!!
