YNR 12/21: Smells Like Heaven
Chapel: Devon stops by with donations for the food pantry. He hears singing an dfinds his mother leading a chorus of adorable little moppets singing "we Wish You a Merry Christmas."
Jill mocks Kate for always ruining everyone's lives with her annoying secrets and surprises.
Neil and Sofia continue their boring, fake marriage. Ashley offers to babysit so that Neil and Sofia can have alone time, and Neil looks like he swallowed a gold fish.
Billy carries Delia around as they admire the Christmas decorations. he asks what that smell is. Delia says it's cookies, but Billy corrects her and says it's heaven. Aw. Vicki shows up with a pan of unburnt cookies, and is very, very proud of them. I guess that whole thing about not being able to cook means you are a strong woman is true in Genoa City as well. Delia proclaims that she loves Christmas.
Chez Syphillis: I guess Phyllis and Lauren are back to full on being friends and celebrating Christmas together. Michael spills the beans that Adam is the new CEO of Newman.
Crimson Lights: Adam and Sharon stand around staring longingly at each other, but then they separate, just as Nick walks in.
House of the Hideous Sofa: vick, Delia and Billy sit on their ugly sofa and do adorable family stuff. For example, Vicki begs for a hint about her gift and Delia offers "it was the greatest present in the entire store, because we love you." Billy high fives his charming daughter.
chez syphillis: Michael is cute and plays with a baby's toy while he sips wine. Phyllis muses that Nick probably doesn't want to talk about it and must be furious. I may be making this up, but she's either happy that Nik is mad, or she's musing about how well Nick anger bangs. it's probably both.
Crimson Lights: Adam tells Nick he was just filling in Sharon in the board results, and it wasn't a planned meetin. nick demands to speak to Sharon alone. He's never more ridiculous than when he tries to act like he's brave or strong or scary. or interesting. You are handsome, Nick. and vaguely charming. Those are things you are good at, stick with those! Leave clever or tough to your dad or brother, 'kay. Sharon tries to laugh off being caught talking to Adam, but Nick continues to sternly frown at her. Which is like watching a black lab pause for a second before rolling on his back so you can scratch is belly. "I'll show you, I won't let you rub my belly, oh, no I won't."

Lily and Cain have engaged in tghe awesomely messy activity of making Christmas decorations with their toddlers. Is glitter glue appropriate for someone so young? Won't they get it in every adorable, chubby crevice?
Gloworm: tucker wants Sofia to tell Neil that she like likes him. Sofe wants to be an annoying whiner who's in love with the most boring man who's ever lived in this town.
Chapel: When did Harmony develop a history with music by nevermind, I guess I answered that question by pointing out that she calls herself Harmony now, and she got knocked up by a concert. Devon softens to his baby oven.
Crimson Lights: Nick is gross and threatens to keep Faith from Sharon. Nick leaves, as boring as he entered. Adam asks if Sharon is alright, and Sharon leaves in a dramatic flourish. I've only watched this show off and on, so I don't know adam and Sharon all that well. They do have a lot of what they call chemistry. I find them both dreadful by themselves. He's evil but kind of awesome. She's gross and goody goody and completely oblivious as to why she ever has consequences to her batty actions. When they are eyogeth4er, though, I keep wanting to see what they will say and do next, so I see why they have fans. and I also like it that Sharon sometimes just wants to stab Nick in his boring neck, but shtups his brother instead.

Chapel: Devon and Harmony make small talk, and then Sofia, Neil and Moses show up. Harmony's eyes glaze over in a mixture of both jealousy and envy, hatred (both self and general), and an earnest prayer to be a better person. Also, I only just now realized that Neil an dHarmony are totally going to fall in love. I guess my love of Debbi Morgan, and my general disdain of Christoff St. John (ugh, just the name) made me block the obviousness of this out of my mind. ick. She's jealous of Devon's relationship with his chosen family. She envies Sofia's relationship with Moses. She hates herself for all she's done to deserve this pain, and she generally hates everything b/c you don't become a lifelong drug addict without such. and she wants to be better. She is gracious and loving in her wods to Sofia and Sofia's new family. People start showing up at the church. I guess they are all religious? I wonder what religious all these people think they are? It's certainly not Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, or any other thing I've heard of where being an asshole all the time is celebrated.
Kay's surprise is that she brought Anna. who? I think is something to do with Devon's upbringing? like a sister? Harmony is horrified. I only have a vague memory of this plot, but I feel certain that Harmony is very correct to be mortified at being presented with this chunk of her past.
Billy and Delia bond over Christmas presents.
Gloworm: Nick and Vicki whine about how awful Sharon is. They assume that Adam and Sharon are ttogether, and Vicki laments that Adam must feel like king of the world.
cut to Newman Boardroom: "Oh Come all Ye Faithful "plays a bit mournfully, and Adam enters the darkened boardroom and sits alone, contemplating his mortality, feeling anything but kingly.
Chapel: tucker and Ashely helpfully fill in that Anna is Devon's half sister, and they share Harmony as a mother, and Anna and Harmony haven't seen each other since Anna was hip high. Kay semi introduces Anna an dHarmony. The two women smile sadly and tell this very sad story with their eyes for a moment. Anna breaks the silence by kindly saying "you are very pretty." Harmony's eyes fill with tears, as would anyone's wtih a heart, and she corrects that Anna is the beautiful one.

Rectory: Kay tells everyone that she invited Anna to sing. Harmony can't take her eyes off her daughter. Devon brags that his sister will impress them all. Kay and tucker share a glance. Tucker nods his approval of heer latest move in their weird game of chess they are playing with their friends and family.
Phyllis and Nick chat about Adam as CEO. Nick is worried about Faith being around Adam, and Phyllis laughs that Sharon and Adam are back together. And then she makes it all about me by whining about how Avery is forcing her to let Daisy spend time with Lucy. and Nick points out that Victoria probably misses Lucy, which is kind of an awesome dickish way to point out that Phyllis wouldn't have to worry about Daisy if Phyllis hadn't brought Daisy out of moth balls. Nick goes to sit down, and Phyllis pouts that someone used logic against her.
Crimson Lights: Vicki sees a mom and baby playing and feels sad about her empty womb.
Jill visits, and Billy gets all Linus about it and tells Delia that they are celebrating the birht of FJesus. Delia doesn't know who that is, so Billy begins a very charming version of old timey days in the desert.
then we cut to the Christmas pageant. Way to go full on Biblical about Christmas, though, show. I think only 3 people will read this, so this is likely wasted energy. I get so annoyed this time of year when people start whining about how the tree and Jingle Bells and the gift giving should all be referred to as Christmas stuff, instead of holiday stuff. FYI, it offends me when people mistake the tree as a religious symbol. Unless they are Druidsds, and then I wish them a happy Chlorophyllia, or whatever it is they called it.
The big meal, the wrapping paper, the tinsel, none of that has anything to do with Jesus, other than it's also traditionally celebrated around Christmastime. If it means Christmas to you, then, it's Christmas. but if it doesn't to someone else, that shouldn't take away anything from your enjoyment of it. The shepherds, the wise men, the nativity scene, the proclamation from the Angel. All of that is what Christians are celebrating, or supposed to be celebrating if they are doing it right.
The message and the manger, that's all that matters.
Silver Bells is not a Christmas song. It's a holiday song. It's a song about pretty decorations and an attitude of jovial celebration that has been traditionally celebrated in the northern hemisphere since well before Christ was born.
O Holy Night, is a Christmas song. It's the book of Luke translated into a gorgeous song that even some atheists can appreciate for its poetry.
some things are Christmas things. Some things are holiday things. I love them all, and my wish this year, and every year, is that we all, the whole world, take a moment to reflect in our gifts, to share our talents, to love each other, and to forgive at least one thing. If you want to light a menorah or pray on a rug or buy a poinsettia or put up a tree or pass down a ceramic nativity scene from one generation to the next or simply enjoy that the darkest night of the year has passed, and the days will start getting longer. whatever it is you celebrate, I hope and pray that we are around this time next year to celebrate it again. and all of that, to me, is the reason for the season.
Anna has a gorgeous voice. It starts off a bit shaky, but this song has at least three octave changes, so you have to be a freak of nature not to have one wobbly verse. Everyone is loving it. Tucker has a particularly giant smile on his face, which I like. 1. it's beautiful, so how could he not, but also 2. as a music producer, it's got to always be awesome to hear raw talent. and 3. (but lesser so, b/c tucker seems genuine), If Tucker could sign Anna, then surely Devon would have to love him.) What makes me cry is Harmony. She stands, transfixed, her left hand holding onto a pew to steady herself. Harmony watches her daughter sing, and she takes slow, shallow breaths because she so sincerely doesn't want to distract from this moment, that she's informed her brain that it must do anything it can to keep her from breaking into sobs. Vicki walks into the chapel, delighted by Anna's voice, but then she sees Phyllis with Lucy,. and she leaves in a confused haze of sadness. Anna gives a nice flourish on the last verse, and Harmony drinks it in.
Billy and Jill gently joke with each other that they are terrible at being a family, but that they want very much to be awesome at it. The door closes after Jill,a nd Delia is a little heart breaking by jumping up and calling out "Daddy?" Billy promises he's going nowhere.
chapel: Anna's aunt must be the most delightful woman in the world, because Anna is possessed with sincere class and politeness. She tells Harmony "I"m leaving now, and I wanted to say goodbye." The words are sound aloof as I read them back, but this girl says them in a way that indicates she has forgiven Harmony. She by no means wants to hang out with the woman, but she's not bitter or hurt, and she wishes Harmony no ill will. Anna doesn't even pity Harmony, because that would be hurtful. I love Anna.I hope she never comes back b/c then she'd get ruined. Harmony thanks her and then leaves the room before she cries. Kay seems to sincerely worry that she's hurt harmony. I don't think that's what she wanted. she wanted to please Devon, and hopefully Tucker.
Vicki comes home all sad about her empty womb and asks Billy which gift is hers. He picks up a bow and sticks it to his heart. I'm so sure. How can anyone not love billy? I just now? want to marry him a little bit, and I'm very happily married. Please let me watch vicki and billy be pathetic adults that still manage to be adorable together.
Kay follows Harmony and hopes she's not upset for the surprise. Harmony laments that she saw all the parents so wrapped up in their children, and she worries Devon and Anna were cheated. Kay says they can focus on what they can do now. harmony thinks she has nothing to offer. Kay says that everyone needs someone to listen to them and root for them. It's wrong that Harmony wasn't there before, but Kay believes it's never too late to champion your children.
Crimson lights: but hark, It's time for Anna to be all wonderful and wise, so let's listen. Anna says it' must be hard on Harmony, and she's surprised Harmony would come here instead of starting over some place new. Devon arrogantly warns that Kay is probably up to something. Anna sweetly points out that Kay paid for her tuition without knowing of a familial relationship. Devon's face worries that maybe he's being kind of a dick. Anna shrugs that everyone makes mistakes, but it doesn't mean they are bad people. I love this kid. I love the character, I love the actress. She's adorable. Please send her to a good music school, show, and don't ruin her! thanks!
Lauren, Michael and Fen are adorable all over the place for photos he took of something. Michael pays Fen for his photos (they are only $1 bills, so don't worry) but as Fen leaves, Michael muses "look at him, that's a cavity waiting to happen>" hee. Laurent seductively says she has a Christmas wish. Michael laments that she's cutting it close. Laurent says she means she wants more family time like this. Michael worries that he has to worry about Victor. Laurent argues that they need "us" time, and they smooch over the table.
Gloworm: Tucker is taking Ashley to see Abby (and Abby's baby? that no one ever mentions? Ashley is hopeful hat Devon will appreciate Tucker some day.
Phyllis and Summer make a gingerbread house. Summer misses her dad.
Chapel: Nick and sharon and Faith are left in the church. Faith reaches for her mommy, and Nick cockblocks this and leaves, while we hear Faith calling for her mommy. the hell? shut up, Nick. Sharon cries over candles, and Adam shows up and sees her, but he leaves. b/c he loves her enough to want ot with. her, but also enough to want to let her be happy. holy stupid stuff, batman, I'm such a loser, I kind of want Adam and Sharon together. even though that's gross and disgusting b/c he also was willing to let her do life in prison for a crime he knew she didn't commit. what is wrong with me? and sharon?
I find this troubling.

I am so glad you are catching on with Y&R. This show has some great characters. Adam is aces at being evil, just as his father is tops at being a cold hearted bastard. Thanks for the caps!!
I love Anna too but I hated her rendition of her song....overdone.

Love the YnR caps. I only started watching a year ago, but I like it in every opposite way than GH. They do a lot of religious scenes too, not just break out Father Hottie whenever Sonny procreates.
Did you see Nikki's "It's a Wonderful Life" episode? I didn't think I'd like it, but I really did. They showed a bunch of flashbacks which were helpful as a new viewer. I wish GH would do that more.
